Update January 2021
The UK and Welsh Governments have announced further national lockdowns in England and Wales taking effect from 5 January 2021 and 20 December respectively. Whilst our business is not required to close the government guidance on its approach to containing the spread of the COVID-19 virus will affect different clients in different ways. There is no common outcome across the Glendale business and the decision to furlough will be taken at a contract level specific to the current work and individual situation. This could change and is under constant review.
Can I be furloughed?
The decision to furlough an employee is one taken by employers i.e. Glendale, based on business reasons and requirements; if this decision is made, you will be notified and written to, confirming that you have been designated as a furloughed worker. In most areas Glendale is currently adhering to government and client direction to continue working.
Reasons for furlough to be agreed include: a lack of work, being classed as Clinically Extremely Vulnerable (CEV), those with caring responsibilities including childcare issues due to school closures. Guidance does state that those who are living with someone classed as CEV can attend work with all the COVID safety practices in place.
What about the furlough scheme?
The Government has extended the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme from November 2020 until the end of April 2021. Under this scheme, employees who are not able to work, for one of a number of specific reasons, may be designated as a furloughed worker and will be paid 80% of their wages up to a monthly cap of £2,500. Employees will be notified if they are to be designated a furloughed worker.
As a furloughed worker" you will receive 80% of your monthly pay under the scheme. Due to financial pressures as a result of centre closure, the company will not be able to provide the 20% top up.
How will the furlough pay be calculated for full or part time employees on a salary?
The Company will calculate payment in accordance with the government guidance and the scheme rules.
If you were employed prior to February 2020, the pay reference period for furlough pay is the last pay period before 19 March 2020 i.e. February 2020.
If you were employed after February 2020, the pay reference period for furlough pay is the last pay period before October 2020 or year to date from April 2020 to October 2020.
Now I am ‘furloughed’, how will you keep in touch with me?
We will keep in touch with you via your Manager. Please make sure that we have your up to date contact details including your email and phone number, you can do this via this site. Updates will also be posted here and the HR team are responding on a daily basis to questions that you raise on this site.
Should I still come into work?
If you have been furloughed, you are no longer required to come into work.
Who will be making up our 20% loss, there are people amongst your work force who rely on this because of bills and caring for their families?
The government has introduced the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme and under this scheme, employees who are not able to work and may have been laid off will instead be paid 80% of their wages up to a monthly cap of £2,500. These workers will be designated as "furloughed workers". As a "furloughed worker" you will receive 80% of your monthly pay under the scheme, the company are not in a financial position to top up wages.
Is annual leave accrued during furlough?
Yes, annual leave is still accrued during a period of furlough. Any annual leave accrued during your furlough period will be designated as taken during this period. We will top up the 80% pay you receive as a furloughed worker to 100% so that you will receive full pay for this designated annual leave.
Will we be getting paid on our usual pay date?
Yes, pay day remains the last working day of the month
What if I currently have more than one employer?
You can be put on furlough by one employer and continue to work for another, if it is permitted within your Glendale employment contract and you are not working for anyone else during the hours you are contracted to work for us.
Can I do any volunteer work or training?
Once you are on furlough you will not be able to work for your employer, but you can undertake training or volunteer subject to public health guidance, as long as you’re not:
making money for your employer
providing services to your employer
What will happen to my pension contributions?
Your pension contributions will still be deducted from your salary during furlough unless, due to the current circumstances you wish to stop paying your pension contributions.
If this is the case please email payrollenquiries@parkwood-holdings.co.uk.
Have people on maternity leave been affected by the change of employment status to Furlough employee?
Employees on maternity leave continue with maternity leave and have not been designated a Furloughed worker and continue to receive statutory maternity pay in the normal way.
